Courses are created from the list of courses in Osiris. Course managers and instructors are automatically added to the course based on the information in Osiris. After this process, you will have access to your course and can start setting it up, including customizing its content and availability.
Every year in the summer, almost all courses for the new academic year are created in Brightspace. Most of the courses are automatically created from the list of courses in Osiris. When this is ready, Teaching & Learning Support begins with the course copy process. Within this process we copy content from the previous year’s course to the freshly created course for the new academic year. This is not done for all courses. It depends on the faculty and the content of the course. After the course copy is done, Course Managers and/or Instructors are added automatically to a Brightspace course based on information registered in Osiris.
We improve the process of creating courses every year. On the page about the Academic Year Transition you can read what is relevant for your course with regards to the most recent academic year transition.
If you want to create a course, you have two options:
- Contact your faculty contact person (Programme Coordinator) to add the course in Osiris. When the page is in Osiris, a Brightspace page is automatically made.
- If the course/organisation needs to be manually created (not linked to Osiris): Contact Teaching & Learning Support.
Lectures can get access to a course by being enrolled in it. This goes automatically, if you are listed as Course Manager/Instructor in Osiris. Course Managers have the administrator rights to enrol others, more information can be found here. They can also assign teaching roles to users, more information about roles can be found here.
When the page is created and you have access to your course, you can start setting up your course. This page guides you how to do this.
When you are satisfied with your page and want students to see the information, you can set your page to active and your content to visible. This page explains how you can do this.
Troubleshooting
There are a number of reasons why your courses are not visible to you. The course might not be in Osiris, or you might not be enrolled in it. It could also be that your course has an incorrect name or quarter or doesn’t even exist.
If your course is not in Brightspace, you have 2 options:
- Contact the Study Programme Administration (SPA) of your faculty if the course is available in Osiris but not in Brightspace. They should change the setting ‘Cursus naar LMS’ to ‘Ja’.
- Contact your faculty contact person (Programme Coordinator) when the course is not available in Osiris. They should make sure the Course is registered in Osiris.
Once the course is in Osiris with the setting ‘Cursus naar LMS’ set to ‘Ja’, the course will automatically be created in Brightspace the next day.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Teaching-Support@tudelft.nl.
Please contact the Course Manager of the Brightspace course to have you enrolled in the course as an instructor. For more information on roles, please review this page.
If you are enrolled in a Brightspace course you do not belong in, and you keep on getting re-enrolled after being removed from the Brightspace course, please contact your Faculty contact person or Programme Coordinator to have this corrected in Osiris.
Please be aware that SPA is only allowed to change course settings in Osiris after approval of the Faculty Contact person or Programme Coordinator and/or Board of Examiners.
Content of last year’s course was not copied if your course belongs to the faculty of Applied Sciences, Architecture and the Built Environment, Civil Engineering and Geosciences or Industrial Design Engineering. Please view this Support Website on how to copy content yourself. If you would like the Support Team to copy it for you, please send an email with the course code, course quarter and course name to teaching-support@tudelft.nl.
In both cases, contact your faculty contact person (Programme Coordinator) to let them correct it in Osiris and the Studyguide.
If the quarter was incorrect, the system will automatically create a new course once the quarter is changed. If you have been using the incorrect course, Teaching & Learning Support can assist you in moving the content to the correct one.
SPA is only allowed to change course settings after approval of the faculty contact person (educational coordinator) and/or board of examiners.
